The black is the bleed. This was after I peeled the screen protector off.
So I am sure like most people you’ve gotten some snow…and like most you have to get out and shovel it. I know I did and had my handy walker with me because I avm not so steady on my feet. So, I was shoveling and I had my phone with me because as a diabetic with a Dexcom I need to keep my phone with me for blood sugar alerts. I had just taken a photo of the snow and put my phone in my walker bag…obviously not so securely because it fell out. I didn’t think anything of it so just kept shoveling for a bit longer then decided to go back in. Once inside I grabbed my phone and it looked like it was kinda stuck in camera mode with the flashlight on. I have a Samsung Flip and a light was shining thru the middle piece of the phone and sorta black on a good amount of the screen and unresponsive. I started freaking out and my Mom was like let me see. We were both unable to revive the phone. I thought that maybe taking of the screen saver would help so as I was pulling it off the screen turned even more black. At this point I was confused and my Mom was like I will call AT&T as we have insurance on the phone. So while she was doing that I was looking online to see what the heck happened. Turns out the screen going black is called a bleeding screen and happens when the pixels die. Mostly likely is that when my phone dropped the hinge was damaged causing the screen to bleed. I had no idea that was a thing. Anyways I did get a new phone and all is right with it. Thankfully I use Google 1 and back everything up frequently so the data loss was minimal.
Now in my research on this issue I found out that with a flip you need to make sure your case has hinge protection. Mine does except when it fell it was open so it was of no help.
So just make sure your phone is protected and the insurance does come in handy when you need it. And, do regular backups of your data…nobody likes to lose that one perfect photo.
