October 8, 2021: A Date to Remember

Let’s see, where was I…oh yeah, my Mom and I had gotten to the hospital and I barely walked into the ER.

I sat at the registration desk (more like plopped, actually) and said I needed a wheelchair. I couldn’t see the paper to fill out but some how I managed to get the information that was needed on the paper. They brought a wheelchair quickly and immediately took me to triage. While in triage the nurse asked how long had I been this sick? I don’t know…maybe a couple of days but it was just a kidney stone, I said. She also asked why and how long my fingers were blue…again, I don’t know. I overheard her saying to another nurse that she didn’t know how I walked into the ER and that she couldn’t get a blood pressure readying. One of the nurses said she was going to take blood…weird I have never had that happen in the triage room before. Then I was immediately taken into a room inside the ER where several doctors came in and examined me. They finally went out and got my Mom…she came in. Someone came in and said I needed a ct-scan…I really didn’t want it but I did it. (I had a bad experience with a ct-scan a few years back.) At this point, things started happening SUPER fast…I remember hearing “her organs are shutting down” and “she is really sick”. They wheeled me around so I could see my Mom before taking me for the ct-scan. Shortly after the ct-scan a doctor came in…again I was so out of it. I heard them say I needed 2 procedures and had to go to surgery right away. They found a 6 mm kidney stone stuck in my ureter causing urine to go back up into my kidney. From what I was told at this point the doctors told my Mom that I wouldn’t make it thru the surgery that I actually needed to get rid of the kidney stone that was stuck so these 2 procedures were actually life saving procedures. Again, I was wheeled around to see my Mom and little did I know that would be the last time I would see her until 4 days later. And off I went to surgery where I had a 4 port central line placed in my neck and I also had a nephrostomy tube placed in my kidney (and coming out my back with a bag attached) so urine could drain out. I was awake for both surgical procedures which was very interesting. Both procedures were a success…thank God!!!

I need to stop and rest…will pick back up later.

Part 3 is coming soon, I promise.
